The Best Oven-Baked Fries | FORKPRINT RECIPES

Updated: Apr 27, 2020

Ever bake a tray of sliced up potatoes hoping they would taste like crispy french fries but then get disappointed?! Either they came out too over-cooked/mushy, flavorless, not crispy enough, unevenly-baked, or you realized you cut them too thick?

Been there...

So I made it the Forkprint mission to achieve a delicious oven-baked counterpart to traditional deep-fried french fries that are not only way healthier but taste just as good, if not better! The good news is that they're easy to make. Sure, it takes time to slice up potatoes but the recipe is straight-forward.

Are you ready to get cooking and enjoy The Best Oven-Baked Fries from the comfort of your home? Let's get to it!

RECIPE

Yields 8-9 servings

Ingredients

  • 6-7 medium potatoes

  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch (this is what makes them nice and crispy like fried ones!)

  • 2-3 tablespoons olive oil (does not have to be added if you want the recipe to be oil-free)

  • 1 1/2 teaspoon sea salt

  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 450 F or 230 C and place two racks on the lowest levels.

  2. Cut the potatoes into thin, classic french fry-sized slices (refer to pictures above).

  3. In a large bowl, add the cornstarch and seasonings and mix together until evenly combined.

  4. Add in the potato slices and the oil, and gently toss them together with the dry ingredients.

  5. Once evenly coated in the mixture, line two baking trays with parchment paper and lay the potato slices on them. It's very important to make sure they're not over-crowded and that they don't overlap! You want each slice to be touching the parchment paper. This is why they should be divided between two baking trays.

  6. Put one tray on the lowest rack in the oven, and the other on the rack above it. Bake for 15 minutes, then flip each potato slice and alternate the trays on the racks.

  7. Cook for another 10 minutes or so or until dark golden brown. One tray will most likely have to come out sooner than the other, so keep an eye on it!

  8. Sprinkle with more salt or even the flaky salt if preferred. Enjoy!

They're great on their own or paired with your favorite dipping sauce!

Lots of love,
