Chocolate Berry Smoothie Oats | RECIPE

There's a real soulmate theme going on in this recipe. One, it's a quick and easy meal-prepped meal for you and your lover/roomie/best friend. Two, oats and smoothies are a match made in heaven.

This recipe is essentially overnight oats but it uses a smoothie instead of milk as the liquid base. This not only makes the oats richer and more fulfilling, but it packs in a lot of nutrients and flavor with all of the fruit! Not to mention, this blended fruit acts as a natural sweetener so no added sugar is needed in the oats.

The smoothie base is made with frozen strawberries, frozen blueberries, banana, and chocolate pea protein powder. The key to this delicious flavor and consistency is using frozen berries! I find that frozen fruit (especially berries) has a richer flavor and a smoother, creamier texture when blended than non-frozen fruit.

And make sure to use wild blueberries, not your standard blueberries! Wild blueberries have a more intense and sweet taste since they are more compact (have less water content) than regular cultivated blueberries. They're also packed with more health benefits:

❋ They contain more antioxidants than their cultivated counterpart. They have higher amounts of the powerful antioxidant anthocyanin, which is shown via their juicy purple color on the inside! Cultivated blueberries, on the other hand, are much closer to white on the inside.

❋ These powerful little bluebs are very effective at removing heavy metals from the body. They contain phytochemicals that act like magnets to attract toxic heavy metals and carry them out of the brain and liver and remove them from the body. True healing gems!

RECIPE

Yields 2 servings (meals)

Ingredients

  • 1 cup oats (I used multigrain oats)

  • 2 tablespoons chia seeds

  • 1 ripe banana

  • 1 cup frozen strawberries

  • 1/2 cup frozen wild blueberries

  • 1 1/2 cup plant milk (I used flax milk)

  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder

  • optional: for extra sweetness, add 2-4 pitted dates

Instructions

  1. In a jar, add the oats and chia seeds and mix together. Set aside.

  2. In a blender, blend together the rest of the ingredients until fully smooth.

  3. Pour the smoothie into the jar and stir together with the oat and chia mixture.

  4. Seal the jar with a lid and pop it in the fridge until tomorrow morning.

  5. Serve it up in some cute bowls and enjoy!

*Note: If you're both taking it on the go, split the servings into two smaller jars at night so you can eat right out of them in the morning!

Lots of fruity love,
