Dairy-Free Hot Chocolate | RECIPE

Updated: Oct 27, 2019

It's the most wonderful time of the year... hot chocolate season!

This winter drink is a delicious dairy-free alternative to the store-bought powdered mixes, and it's just as easy to make. What's good about making hot chocolate from scratch is that you can customize the chocolate flavor and sweetness exactly to your liking.

INGREDIENTS (1 large serving or 2 small servings)

  • 2 cups plant milk (my favorite is oat milk by Oatly, but you can use any creamy kind)

  • 2 1/2 tablespoons maple syrup

  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder

  • 1 small square dark chocolate

  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1/8 teaspoon sea salt

  • vegan whipped cream (I used almond Reddi Wip, optional)

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. In a small saucepan on high heat, bring the milk to a simmer.

  2. Add the rest of the ingredients except the whipped cream and reduce heat to medium.

  3. Whisk until well combined and heat through until piping hot (without boiling).

  4. Top with whipped cream and an organic candy cane for extra sweetness.

This hot cocoa is best enjoyed next to a bonfire under a starry night sky, wrapped in your coziest blanket!

Happy Holidays,
